Amsterdam Avenue is chock full ?o restaurants ? some good, others not so much.
Blanca over at FriendEat.com recently reviewed Savann, a Turkish restaurant at 414 Amsterdam (between 79th & 80th).
The verdict? ?Unassumingly delicious? and ?highly recommended.?
You can read the full review here. Blanca got to try a variety of dishes, including a meze platter (featuring dolmas, babaganoush, palaki, and hummus), cucumber salad, grilled calamari, manti, stuffed cabbage, a kebab platter, and baklava (which she describes with a ?WOW!?).
I live near Savann and coincidentally ordered delivery from there for the first time a couple of weeks ago (disclosure: I?m a fan of Turkish food, especially yogurt kebabs).
While my order was limited to just an Adana kebab with yogurt, my initial impression of Savann is favorable ? delivery was reasonably quick and the food was tasty.
My personal preference would have been for a bit more of the yogurt sauce, but that?s just me. I also thought the portion size could have been slightly bigger, but it wasn?t to the point that I wouldn?t order from them again (or visit in person). As an offset of sort, the order came with copious amount of delicious bread, which Blanca reports chef Galip Ozbek ? who ?grew up on a farm in Turkey? ? sources from ?a special bakery in NJ.?
Yelp reviews are limited, but mostly positive. Don?t be confused by a second Yelp listing for Savann that say it?s closed ? that?s referring to its prior incarnation as a French restaurant.
