However when companies want to import change the primary hurdle is getting other people within the company on side. It is extremely important to acknowledge and understand why resistance is occurring within the organisation.
An important aspect of imposing change upon individuals is answering their first question which will be; "what's in it for me?" We are all human and only desire change if it will benefit us. So, don't be afraid to answer this question honestly. But always remember if people do not understand what benefits they will receive from such a change they will be less likely to respond positively.
Team work is vital in all companies especially when changes are being made. Many people feel unstable and unsure when a change in their job is taking place, especially if they do not understand the why's of this particular change. Therefore it is important that all members of the organisation understand the change as it will allow all members of this 'team' to be involved in all changes. Responding to Questions ? Janet L. Kayfetz, PhD
Responding to questions requires good listening, quick thinking, focus, timing, and breathing. Whether a question is short and to the point or long-winded and fuzzy, you can think of your response as having three basic steps.
1.?Comprehend. Identify the point and breathe.
2.?Respond. Give a direct answer ? the topic.
3.?Expand. Elaborate on your response ? the comment.
1. Comprehend. It is obviously important for you to understand a question before you?can give a helpful answer. Concentrate hard when the question is being asked and do not interrupt even if you think you know where the questioner is going. Pinpoint the question in your mind, and then breathe to prepare yourself for your response. If you are unclear about the question, ask the questioner to clarify for you before you answer.
2. Topic. The first part of your answer should be a relatively short and direct answer to the question, and usually provides either some information and/or your opinion. Keep it to the point.
3. Comment. The second part of your answer is an expansion of your initial response. This is where you offer clarification, an example, a counterexample, more opinion. An answer without a bit of expansion can seem abrupt and even impolite.
This ?respond with a direct answer and then follow with an expansion? structure is called Topic-Comment, and is the appropriate and expected way to communicate in a formal situation when responding to a question. All it means is that when giving an answer to a question, give the punchline first and the commentary second instead of the other way around. When you use a Topic-Comment structure, your listeners will perceive you to be on topic, direct, and focused. If you adopt a Comment-Topic style where you offer details and examples before giving a direct response, you may be perceived to be rambling and unfocused.
The art of the matter is to be able to manage all questions no matter when they occur ? both during and following a talk ? and to offer responses that are to the point, complete, but not too long and repetitive. If you respond to a question that comes up during your talk, it is vital to be able to segue gracefully back into your discussion. If you respond to a question during the question and answer period, it is important to know how to finish an answer and move on to the next audience member who has a question.

TomTom has seen the inexorable rise of smartphone navigation and decided that it needs a cheaper way of updating its head units. Its cunning solution has been to open its MapShare community to all 60 million TomToms in the wild -- which was previously limited just to smartphone apps and select devices. MapShare works by allowing users to update their, erm, maps, when they spot a change has been made, which is then uploaded when they get home. It'll now be aggregated and pushed out as a free daily download. Users can filter updates, deciding if they want ones submitted by "some," "many" or those officially verified by the company itself -- so don't bother trying to game the system to make your morning commute easier.

Bank bailout to spark firesale of corporate Spain
MADRID (Reuters) - The European bailout for Spain's banks will push them to sell an empire of stakes in the nation's top companies, ending a cozy culture of corporate-banking links and prompting a wider shake-up in ownership of the company landscape.
Spain formally requested euro zone rescue loans to recapitalize debt-laden former savings banks on Monday, but those who receive funds will be subject to European Union state-aid rules that include selling equity assets.
With the price of such assets languishing as the euro zone's financial crisis drags on, that will involve the likely fire sale of big chunks of Spain's corporate titans, including telecoms leader Telefonica, oil major Repsol and power firm Iberdrola.
UBS estimates 22 billion euros ($28 billion) of Spanish stakes could be up for sale, most of which is in the hands of savings banks. This represents as much as 9 percent of the capitalization of the country's blue-chip index.
Over the years, Spain's savings banks have gained board seats on some of the country's biggest firms, exerting a powerful role in shaping corporate and industrial strategy in sectors ranging from tourism and real estate to energy and telecommunications.
Established centuries ago to help farmers in times of poor harvests, the savings banks developed strong regional and political identities in a closely intertwined corporate and banking culture of mutual backscratching.
Banks rolled over debt for cash-strapped companies to prevent loans from going bad, while bankers earned considerable salaries for sitting on company boards.
Not for much longer.
"They're going to have to sell. And with no light at the end of the tunnel as far as the macro, political dance, the chances of holding out for a better price increasingly look like wishful thinking," said Flemming Barton, analyst at CM Capital Markets.
NOT IF, BUT WHEN
Bankia, which last month asked for a lifeline of 19 billion euros ($24 billion), the largest state rescue in Spanish history, will be the first to give up once-prized corporate stakes.
It owns 20 percent of tech firm Indra, 12 percent of International Airlines Group and 5.3 percent of Iberdrola, as well as big stakes in insurer Mapfre, hotelier NH Hoteles and olive oil firm Deoleo.
"Bankia is going to have to liquidate all its stakes except for Mapfre, where it has cross stakes and strategic deals," a banking source said. "This is going to put pressure on other savings banks, including La Caixa's industrial empire."
Although Barcelona-based La Caixa is not itself in need of a bailout, the shift in Spanish banking and corporate relationships will set the tone for the Catalan bank, too.
Executives at the companies held by Bankia are already taking steps to line up buyers and keep the shares from falling into undesirable hands.
In the case of Iberdrola, Chairman Ignacio Sanchez Galan said on Friday the company did not rule out buying back Bankia's stake, worth 1 billion euros, itself.
Meanwhile, IAG Chief Executive Willie Walsh has said there are "interested investors" for Bankia's stake, valued at about 420 million euros.
Bankia and its parent BFA have already recognized a 1.6 billion euro write-down on its corporate stakes. Not so for other troubled banks that will also be under pressure to sell.
An independent audit to determine the health of Spanish banks also failed to put a number on potential losses related to banks' equity stakes, meaning the sector's ultimate funding needs could increase.
CLOCK TICKING FOR LA CAIXA
Like Spain's two largest banks Santander and BBVA, banking group La Caixa does not need external aid, but analysts and sources said it was just a matter of time before the Catalan powerhouse also unwinds stakes.
"Caixabank isn't stressed to the extent that the others are, but they obviously will have to find capital, either through business as usual or selling stakes," said one banking source. "But the days of industrial holdings is nearing its end."
Despite a strong balance sheet, La Caixa will need fresh funds to meet tough new provisioning requirements under a local and global drive for banks to raise capital.
For decades La Caixa has been kingmaker of a vast empire, stretching from 37 percent of utility Gas Natural to 28 percent of tollway firm Abertis, 12.8 percent of Repsol and 5.1 percent of Telefonica, and including stakes in banks such as Austria's Erste and Portugal's BPI.
Some of the stakes, long considered sacred, are held through its listed unit Caixabank.
"I definitely don't see Caixabank selling now or soon; they're going wait. But in the next cycle it's hard to see them increasing exposure to equity holdings in corporates other than as a result of bankruptcies," Barton of CM Capital Markets said.
A flock of "vulture" funds is already watching over the banking sector shakeout in the hope that it will finally deliver a bonanza of distressed company assets at rock bottom prices.
Fearing the fallout, Spain's ruling People's Party took steps early in June to protect strategic companies such as Repsol from opportunistic takeovers by proposing an amendment to bring back a limit on voting rights.
But as Spain's economic crisis draws out, with unemployment climbing above 24 percent and a recession seen lasting through this year, investors still feel that anything they can buy today can be had even cheaper tomorrow.
"People are aware that sales are taking place, and they are watching. But the overriding emotion on Spanish assets right now is not 'I have got to hurry or I will lose it,'" the banking source said.

Thoughts on Gay Marriage from a Straight Woman | Veracity Stew
As a ?straight? person, that both heartens and bothers me.
One of the chief advocates of California?s historic Proposition 8 has publicly and officially changed his position on same-sex marriage and now believes that gays and lesbians should be allowed to marry as a matter of ?basic?fairness.? David Blankenhorn, who founded an organization called the?Institute for American Values, and a witness in 2010 on behalf of Protect Marriage, Prop. 8?s sponsoring group, wrote in a New York Times opinion piece:
?For me, the most important (thing) is the equal dignity of homosexual love. I don?t believe that opposite-sex and same-sex relationships are the same, but I do believe, with growing numbers of Americans, that the time for denigrating or stigmatizing same-sex relationships is over. Whatever one?s definition of marriage, legally recognizing gay and lesbian couples and their children is a victory for basic fairness.?
Blankenhorn?s change of position comes on the heels of ?a CNN/ORC poll released earlier this month which shows that 54 percent of Americans believe that marriages between gay and lesbian couples should be recognized as valid by law. The results of the survey were released the day after a federal appeals court in San Francisco refused to review the same same-sex marriage ruling Blankenhorn opposed and testified in support of previously. Proposition 8, was ruled unconstitutional by the courts, but a stay is in place until appeals are exhausted.
I?m heartened because it seems in a short time and with each new poll more Americans are ready to support the legality of gay marriage. I?m bothered because no person?s rights ? gay or straight ? should be the subject of anybody else?s approval or disapproval. By its very nature this overall debate, the various votes and the numerous polls give the majority the power and authority to determine what is ?normal.?
On the one hand, I understand the joy that accompanied President Obama?s and the NAACP?s endorsements of same-sex marriage as a civil right. On the other, I?m offended that in the 21st Century we feel we need anyone?s permission to accept a normal relationship as a normal relationship. A big part of me says if we just saw LGBT people as, say, people, we wouldn?t need to have this conversation. People marry other people, or not. It should be their choice. Why should one set of people get to determine that one person is more or less worthy than another?
I?m grateful for movement in the right direction but one of the things that has always bothered me about the same-sex marriage debate is that it perpetuates a sense of ?otherness? that lets us believe that it is okay to discriminate against gay people. A second thing that bothers me is any notion that the fight for marriage equality is an LGBT fight. It is not. Any time anyone with power attempts to exclude a portion of society based on pure prejudice it is an attack on us all and we must all join the fight against them.
There are ways we can recognize that we are different but still entitled to be treated equally. We may be seeing positive signs that we?re headed in that direction but we?re not there yet. Start by not waiting for permission to do the right thing.

CINCINNATI (AP) - Josh Willingham paid close attention to Joe Mauer's at-bat, then came up with a clutch hit of his own.
Willingham belted a long two-run homer off shaky Cincinnati closer Aroldis Chapman in the ninth inning, rallying the Minnesota Twins to a 4-3 victory over the Reds on Sunday.
Mauer lined a one-out double off the wall in left before Willingham connected for his 15th homer, a 438-foot drive into the second level in left.
"It was fun to watch Joe's at-bat. It set the tone for the inning," Willingham said. "I was looking for something over the middle hard and the pitch was over the middle and it was hard. I tried to stay short with my swing. You don't swing early but just try to make it shorter."
Chapman (4-4) yielded a game-ending, two-run homer to Asdrubal Cabrera in his previous outing, a 3-2 loss at Cleveland on Tuesday. The lanky left-hander is 0-4 with three blown saves and an unseemly 11.37 ERA in his last seven games.
Willingham's homer came after Joey Votto hit a two-run shot to put the Reds in front in the eighth.
"If you need a fastball hitter in those situations, Josh is the guy," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. "Mauer's a great hitter. He can do things that others can't against a pitcher who throws above the speed limit."
Chapman struck out Darin Mastroianni to start the inning, then threw two quick strikes to Mauer. But Mauer worked the count full before coming up with the big hit.
"I tried to stay short. It's tough in interleague because you haven't seen the pitchers before and you don't know how the ball moves," Mauer said. "The guy's got a heck of an arm and has good movement on his pitches. I was trying to put the barrel on the ball. A guy that throws that hard supplies most of the power."
Scott Diamond (6-3) allowed three runs and eight hits in eight innings for Minnesota. The left-hander struck out seven and also hit two batters.
The home run by fellow Canadian Votto was disheartening to the rookie.
"I felt I made a good pitch," Diamond said. "From that pitch to Willingham going off it was pretty suspenseful but we remained positive."
Former Reds reliever Jared Burton, subbing for ailing closer Matt Capps, worked the ninth for his first career save. Capps had a setback with his sore shoulder.
Burton spent the last five seasons in Cincinnati. He opted for free agency when the Reds wanted to send him to the minor leagues last September; then signed with Minnesota two months later.
"The last out was pretty intense," he said. "I had a little extra adrenaline going but I tried to tell myself the pressure was on the hitter because they were the ones losing."
Burton walked Todd Frazier to start the ninth. Frazier moved up on Willie Harris' sacrifice and Burton walked pinch-hitter Scott Rolen before Chris Heisey flied out on the first pitch and Wilson Valdez bounced into a fielder's choice.
"I had to be careful with Rolen," Burton said. "He's a professional hitter. I felt like I made good pitches the rest of the inning."
Mike Leake pitched eight solid innings for Cincinnati, surrendering just five hits. He struck out five, walked none and had just 86 pitches when manager Dusty Baker went to Chapman for the ninth.
"That's Chapman's job," Baker said. "Leake just came off throwing 112 pitches his last time out. Everybody's got a job. What if I send Leake out and he gives it up? The hitters coming up would have seen him for the fourth time."
The Reds dropped to 7-8 in interleague play this season and 104-131 all-time. The Twins finished 9-9 this year and are 157-125 all-time.
The NL Central leaders grabbed the lead in the fourth. Devin Mesoraco hit a leadoff double, moved up on Leake's sacrifice and scored on Wilson Valdez's two-out single.
Trevor Plouffe responded with his 15th homer, a 385-foot drive to right-center that tied it with one out in the fifth.
There has been at least one homer at Great American Ball Park for 62 consecutive games, the longest current streak in the majors.
Justin Morneau's run-scoring groundout put the Twins in front in the seventh, but Votto's 14th homer made it 3-2 in the eighth.

Mexico admits arrested 'drug kingpin' is actually a car salesman

Mexico has admitted it mistakenly claimed to have captured a son of Mexico's most wanted druglord, Joaquin "Shorty" Guzman, which the ruling party had hailed as a major victory in its war on cartels.
Mexican marines seized the man on Thursday outside Guadalajara and flew him to Mexico City, where they paraded him in front of the media and identified him as Jesus Alfredo Guzman, aka El Gordo or The Fat One.
The man's lawyer, Veronica Guerrero, told a news conference earlier on Friday her client's real name was Felix Beltran and that he was an innocent car dealer. The federal attorney general's office said late on Friday the man arrested was indeed Beltran, without giving any further details.
The mixup is a major embarrassment for the government, which has been heavily criticised for failing to contain the violence and flow of drugs since president Felipe Calderon sent in the military to fight the cartels shortly after taking office in December 2006.
Marines said they apprehended the man with an arsenal of rifles, pistols and grenades and about $160,000 (?102,000) in cash.
Javier Oliva, a political scientist from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, said the snafu showed how poor co-ordination is between US intelligence agencies and their Mexican counterparts.
"This is really serious. Nothing like this has ever happened before," he said, wondering how the agencies had gone public on the arrest without making the proper checks. "The main responsibility here lies with the DEA."
Thursday's arrest won praise from the US Drug Enforcement Administration, which has sought Jesus Alfredo Guzman since he was indicted for cocaine trafficking in 2009. His father, the elder Guzman, faces dozens of charges of racketeering and drug smuggling in US courts. There is a $5m reward for his capture.
The arrest came just over a week before Mexicans vote for a leader to replace Calderon, whom the constitution bars from seeking a second term. Brutal clashes between drug cartels and Mexican authorities have killed more than 55,000 people since Calderon launched his crackdown on the gangs.
"This is confirmation that President Calderon's strategy doesn't work," said Alberto Islas, a security expert at the consultancy Risk Evaluation. He said the botched arrest demonstrated the weakness of Mexico's own intelligence apparatus.
